Old Tech
18th March, 2026
I've been into computing for as long as I can remember. I've been through Windows XP, Windows 7, Celeron chips and even Atom chips.
But that's not what I wanna talk about. What I want to though is my love-hate relationship with old computers and tech.
I used to have one of those Sony VAIO laptops and an HP Mini laptop, both of which I've used to watch stuff. It was fine for it's use case so it's nothing that will break a sweat on a Windows 7 laptop. I started using an HP Compaq PC after that, in which use case before that was playing games, which on ROBLOX was not that bad, just had to switch to the lowest graphics option. When I tried recording and streaming, that's when I had the lag problem. Now I have a gaming PC and a laptop, in which I mainly use the latter.
My use case back then was gaming, but now I'm trying to do stuff other than games. If you're playing Counter-Strike 24/7 and you're stuttering, it might be time to upgrade, otherwise, not really.
People have done stuff on YouTube on probably worse hardware than the budget options on the market nowadays, so you don't really have to worry about upgrading if you plan on making videos that aren't intense gaming.
I like old tech, but most of it was probably succeeded by mobile phones, which the latter I use mainly to listen to music or light gaming on the go.
So... What do YOU need?
All you need is at least some interest and passion towards what you're trying to get done and take breaks every now and then. You don't need a graphics card with DLSS or a CPU that has 24 cores or anything like that. You should avoid getting excessive for the main tasks.
That's it for this post!
